Water Treatment: The New Renewable Energy Source

A relatively new company based in California has found a way to efficiently disinfect waste water. Pasteurization Technology Group, or PTG, combines wastewater disinfection with the generation of renewable energy. The technology used the digester gas, a natural by-product of wastewater treatment to drive a turbine that generates renewable electricity. This resulting energy can in turn be used (as heat) to disinfect the water. This process is efficient, and does not require the use of chemicals such as chlorine, or expensive electrical power and UV lamps.

  1. What an interesting article! I like the idea of a "two-for-one" technology that combines dealing with wastewater and generating renewable energy all at once. It seems like innovative technology such as this is bound to cause quite a stir within the environmental community.

  2. That is great! It is good to see that they are being recognized for their efforts. I checked out their Twitter feed, and I see that they are adjusting their sales team to meet the demands of their product. It seems like this type of wastewater treatment is very environmentally friendly, and I am glad to see that there is an increasing demand for it.
